Air Zoo - Kalamazoo, MI

The Air Zoo, located in Portage, Michigan (just south of Kalamazoo) is dedicated to the focus on flight! The museum exhibits the history of flight through chronological order starting with hot air balloons, which is actually a mechanical ride for visitors, and ends with a 3-d space shuttle simulator. The Air Zoo is different from the classic museum because through the rides, simulators, and mural, the visitor gets to experience learning through all 5 senses, rather than rely solely on an exhibitors explanation. The original museum of aviation has been in operation for 25 years, but this new building was built, and opened its doors in 2004 to expose and educate, not only those with prior knowledge of military flight and history, but the curious minds of the general public in a fun, non-intimidating forum. While their focus is on flight, they have an extensive collection of military and war related artifacts donated from various sources, making this museum a true historical learning adventure.
